Terra / corpus is from a series of sunken graves cast in bronze and inverted into positive form. It is developed out of an extended enquiry probing whether or not a melancholic relationship between object and loss exists within cultural memory in Australia. In particular, is the pursuit of representing the Australian landscape an attempt to reconcile a disconnection from it? This enquiry also recognizes that residual colonial visions of the land are decidedly about bodies: present or absent, remembered, forgotten, retrieved or conjured. Like a congealment of body and landscape, Terra / Corpus plays on topography of the self and the body politic as well as the memorializing efforts of archaeological speculation.
