Sacred Devil Tree is part of a suite of sculptural works exploring varying states of repression and infection within the Australian psyche. Here, the bones from a small snake carcass are salvaged and cast within plaster as a ghostly version of the serpent of Eden. Lying dormant on the severed limb of an iconic river red-gum, the work presents as a mnemonic souvenir where the ghosts of colonial pursuits linger.
